As farm sizes increase, farmers can have difficulties monitoring livestock welfare. This has significant financial implications as animals succumb to diseases that could have been prevented or alleviated by early detection. Our customer wanted to provide a solution to this problem by creating a wireless sensor system that could monitor animals to automatically detect certain diseases and welfare problems.
PTL Associates designed and developed a robust low cost sensor tag that records livestock behaviours and wirelessly downloads recorded data to farm computers. This created a platform that our customer built on to automatically detect conditons of interest. PTL helped our customer through prototype development and into volume manufacture.
Our customer now has the leading condition monitor system in its class, and has achieved global sales and recognition for its product – including a John Logie Baird award for innovation.
